Goa -Topography

Goa’s is blessed with verdant hills of the Western Ghats, rolling and undulating plains, long inviting beaches, several rivers and numerous natural springs that are believed to have healing properties. It has a variety of physical features that make it a unique tourist destination.
Goa can be divided into four divisions- the Central Valley Lands comprising Pernem, Bicholim, Ponda, Eastern Sanguem, and Quepem; the Flood Plains comprising the coastal plains and rolling uplands;the Eastern Hill region comprising the Western Ghats and places like Ponda, Canacona, Sattari, and Sanguem; and the Coastal Plains of Mormugao, Tiswadi, Salcete, and Bardez.
Goa has plenty of water supply. There are several rivers and streams that flow through it. The seven major rivers that flow throught the Sahyadri range are Tiracol, Mandovi, Zuari, Sal, Talpona, Galgibagh, and Chapora. Some of the famous lakes in the state are Mayem and Carambolim. Most of the rivers are navigable and of tremendous economic importance since ores are transported through these rivers to the Mormugao port for export.
The estuary of the Mandovi River, the largest of Goa’s seven rivers, divides Goa. Emanating from the Western Ghats also known as the Sahaydri Range, the river flows past mangroves, rice paddy fields and coconut and cashew plantations. Goa has a diverse wildlife and five wildlife sanctuaries spread over approximately 760 sq km which amount to about 20% of Goa’s total land area. Some very spectacular churches and temples are also located inland.
